I’ve always been a fan of Golden Age Archie comics. It should also be pretty clear to anyone who has read the blog that I love Christmas, especially as it is depicted in the Golden Age of Comic Books! While I’ve covered a lot of aspects of Christmas in the Golden Age, I’ve never mentioned some of my favorite Archie Christmas covers from the late Golden Age of Comics (and a little into the Silver Age). Starting in 1954, Archie began publishing Archie Giant Series Magazine. The first six issues of this publication were titled, Archie’s Christmas Stocking. These issues contained some classic Christmas stories. I’ve read a few over the years, but would recommend them for any fan of Archie and the Golden Age of Comic Books.
The fist six issues of this series (1954-1959) are titled Archie’s Christmas Stocking. Later issues featured other themes and characters, with the Christmas Stocking appearing each year for the Holidays. Here are the covers of the remainder of the first six issues. By the way, according to the Grand Comic Book Database, Archie Giant Series Magazine was contiuously published until 1992 (332 issues, numbered 1 through 632 – There are 300 missing numbers, 36-135, 252-451). There was also another Archie’s Christmas Stocking series published by Archie Publications starting in 1993.
Merry Christmas!
