Who is Bill Jourdain?
Bill Jourdain has been reading comic books since he was 6 years old, and began collecting comics as a hobby over 30 years ago. He has focused on collecting Golden Age Batman related comics, but also has a large collection of other Golden Age and Silver Age titles.
In 1996, Bill established the Golden Age Batman web site in an effort to provide a web-based resource for the Golden Age Batman and related characters. In 2005, Bill became fascinated with a new internet based “talk show” called podcasting, and in June of that year recorded the first episode of the Golden Age of Comic Books Podcast. In over sixty episodes, Bill has explored many of the characters and creators of the Golden Age. As part of the Golden Age of Comic Books Podcast, Bill has established a presence on Comic Space. In addition to his internet based comic book pursuits, Bill has had an article published in Alter-Ego Magazine #27 (August, 2003) and was featured in an issue of Dalton Magazine. Bill also wrote the “Comics Then” column for Comics Now! magazine. Most recently, Bill was proud to be a part of the creation of the Vintage DC Super Heroes 2009 Calendar with Asgard Press, where he penned the introduction to the calendar and the descriptions of each of the 16 covers. Bill has also written the introduction to the new 2010 Vintage DC Superheroes Calendar celebrating 75 years of DC Comics. Several of the covers featured in both calendars came from his collection. In the past, Bill has provided support to DC Comics on Les Daniels’ Batman: The Complete History.
Here’s Bill at the 2005 San Diego Comic Con holding the original cover art to Batman #11 by the great Jerry Robinson. This piece later sold for over $200,000 at auction. Bill didn’t own it, but at least he got to hold it!
